Build bridges and tear down walls-Malaysian PM Datuk Seri Najib Razak

On the eve of 52nd Malaysian Independence Day Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib Razak in his speech warned of the dangers of disunity in a multiethnic, multiracial society. The bridge between Indians, Chinese and Malays is showing cracks because of certain political parties and their selfish agenda. Such groups were exploiting the fine lines that exist in a multiethnic society, politically, religiously and socially. The biggest challenge was to restore the bridge and demolish the walls that separate Malaysians.

This unity was cultivated and maintained by forefathers of Malaysia and history proves that poorly managed success ends in failure. He reminded Malaysians of the predicted demise of Malaya by the hands of communist insurgents, inexperience administration, socio-economic imbalance reinforced by the multiethnicity of the young nation.

Malaysia was the first country to defeat and overcome the communist and in two decades brought social justice to its people. The nation faced many milestones like, Bintang Tiga, socio-economic imbalance, ethnic discord, economic downturn of 80s to Asian crisis of 90s but survived it all. The sole reason of success and prosperity came from the support and contribution to development by all races, religious beliefs, people’s contribution from rural and urban background.PM Najib, said,

“Each and every citizen had equal opportunity under the Malaysian sky and the only barrier to individual achievement was the lack of will to succeed, willingness to work hard and the courage to take risks.”

But one cannot rest of past laurels and create new success.
The government had introduced effective policies and constructed concrete initiatives by revamping the public service delivery system and promoting the public welfare agenda as a government priority.

This year’s Independence celebrations would be low key because of N1H1 and possibly Ramadan but the theme will be 1Malaysia.People first.Performance now, for a promise of a better tomorrow.
